Xilinx Expands Portfolio of Services to Provide Complete Programmable Systems Design Solution
Expanding Role of FPGAs Increases Need for Services and Support; Demand for Xilinx Services Grew This Year by Over 30% Despite Economic Downturn
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. today announced a number of new education, support and design service offerings that enable customers to reduce the learning curve and development costs associated with creating programmable SoC solutions. Increasingly, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are being used as systems platforms, becoming a more strategic purchase for customers and requiring a comprehensive solution including software, silicon, intellectual property (IP) and specialized services. At the same time, FPGAs are expanding into new application areas such as Digital Signal Processing (DSP), automotive, medical imaging, and video broadcast where engineers new to FPGAs technology need to come up to speed quickly.

Xilinx has a 90% share of the high-end Platform FPGA market segment. As the industry leader in this growing market segment, Xilinx is challenged with providing scalable services for a wide range of engineers. "On-demand" application engineers, global support centers and personalized on-line support are examples of how Xilinx is expanding its services.
"Customer demand for specialized services is growing at an increasing rate. At the same time, we are entering a new era of systems design with FPGAs often being used as system platforms," said Don Mullikin, vice president of the Global Services Division at Xilinx. "These trends, combined with the continual introduction of FPGAs to new engineers, is driving a new set of requirements in our industry. We see our expanded services as setting the industry standard and completing the systems design solution"
The new global services from Xilinx, which are a response to these trends and indicative of the increasingly central role of programmability in systems design, include:
